Excerpt from the book...
Having goals can change your life significantly. Goals give you purpose, they give you hope. You see yourself aiming for something you desire to achieve. You might not have all the details upfront but you work them out. With good goals you can see the finish line. You can see your destination.
Good goals help to motivate you. They give you a
reason to get up in the morning and get going. You realize after setting your
goals that you have a starting point. You have somewhere to begin. You are no
longer wandering aimlessly through life looking for something that seemed to be
hidden from you. You see your target. It's like aiming a dart at the centre of
a dart board. You look at that board and you say to yourself I can do this and
you are determined to do it. The very idea motivates you into action and
launches you out to do the unbelievable.
Good goals give meaning to your life. They give you
a sense of purpose. If you were feeling useless before you realize now that your
life has a meaning and a purpose. You have something to look forward to, and
that something will ultimately bring about a great reward.
Good goals give you a sense of direction, if you
are headed for somewhere and you don't have a direction, chances are you will
never get there, unless you stop and ask for direction, but if you have
direction it makes the trip a lot easier and a lot more enjoyable. You're not
stressed out trying to figure out where you are going. You start out headed in
the right direction. You have your destination in sight and in mind.

reach your potential. Goals help you see the possibility of a thing. Each step
you take draws you closer to the finishing line. Once you complete a goal it
makes you feel good about yourself. You realize you can do this. It lets you
